The Advising Center wants to help you make informed decisions as you progress toward graduation. MABC students often ask these questions:

1. What do I need to know as I plan toward completing the MABC?

Face to face requirementat least 30 hours
Locationanywhere at least 49% of the course is face to face with the professor
Courses for which to watch out

BC courses are offered in Dallas, DC, and Houston during fall and spring semesters.

Students can complete BC courses in Houston in 2 years.

Students can complete BC courses in Dallas in 3 years.

International StudentsF-1 and J-1 Visa students are required to study in Dallas.
Time Limit7 years from start of first course at DTS
Satisfactory Progress13 hours per calendar year on average

General Planning:

There are a number of pre-/co-requisites among the required BC courses. If you carefully follow the catalog layout, you will meet these requirements. If not, you will need to know the pre-/co-requisites for each course. DTS lists course pre-/co-requisites with each course description in the course catalog. Completion of the BC courses alone will take three years on the Dallas Campus. DC and Houston students should work with their academic advisor to understand how long it will take to complete the required BC courses at their respective campus.

These resources will help you plan toward MABC degree completion.

2. How do I select a practicum site?

Students must select an approved practicum site prior to starting BC310 (Counseling Practicum II).
Students should choose a counseling practicum site that aligns with their professional and ministerial goals. The Biblical Counseling Department provides a list of potential practicum locations. Students are responsible for securing their own practicum site which meets departmental criteria. For more information, contact the Biblical Counseling Department.

3. Where do I find information regarding state LPC requirements?

Students are required to know the Licensed Professional Counseling requirements for the state in which they wish to practice; even if they plan to stay in Texas. These requirements may differ from the requirements needed for DTS degree completion. Requirements can be found by contacting state LPC boards.
