The Advising Center wants to help you make informed decisions as you progress toward graduation. MACE students often ask these questions:

1. How do I select an MACE Concentration?
The MACE degree includes 12 elective credit-hours (Concentration). Students will select a concentration intended to prepare them for their planned ministry context. A concentration must be selected before students have completed 30 credit-hours of their degree program or before they take an elective, whichever comes first.

Key Questions

  • How does the stated purpose of this concentration strengthen my gifts and shore up my weaknesses?
  • What skills or concepts do I want to gain or master as a result of my study?
  • For what ministry context am I preparing?

Formal Process

  • Review the available concentrations (see above) noting where they are available, the required courses, and the faculty member that oversees your chosen concentration.
  • For the Parachurch Ministries concentration, submit the Parachurch Ministry form to Dr. McLaughlin for approval.
  • For all other concentrations, email the Advising Center requesting your selected concentration. Be sure to include your name and student ID number in all correspondence with the Advising Center.
  • Elective courses not preapproved for your concentration must be approved by the faculty advisor that oversees your concentration using the substitution approval form on the right side of this page.

2. What do I need to know as I plan toward completing the MACE?

3. How do I meet my 22-hour face to face requirement?

Students should be aware that most elective EML courses are available on the Dallas, DC, or Houston campuses during fall and spring semesters. Some electives are offered at other locations and during summer and winter sessions. Students in the MACE program should contact the Educational Ministries and Leadership department for more information regarding planned elective offerings.
Distance and online students should check the course schedule for EML elective courses needed for their concentration each registration period (October for winter and spring; March for summer and fall). Prioritize these and then look for required BE and ST courses that you can take in person. Do not rush through the BE and ST courses online. Instead, start taking these face to face your first year.
