The Advising Center wants to help you make informed decisions as you progress toward graduation. MACE students often ask these questions:
1. How do I select an MACE Concentration?
The MACE degree includes 12 elective credit-hours (Concentration). Students will select a concentration intended to prepare them for their planned ministry context. A concentration must be selected before students have completed 30 credit-hours of their degree program or before they take an elective, whichever comes first.
2. What do I need to know as I plan toward completing the MACE?
Students should plan to meet with their academic advisor at least once a year to review previous courses and plan for the remaining hours and requirements in the degree. Students should also meet with the faculty advisor for their concentration before or shortly after selecting a concentration to discuss electives, possible internships, and ministry possibilities.
|Face to face requirement||at least 22 hours|
|Location||anywhere at least 49% of the course is face to face with the professor|
|Concentrations(Plan carefully in consultation with Academic and Faculty Advisors)|
Some concentrations may be completed in DC and Houston.All concentrations may be completed in Dallas.
The Parachurch and Educational Leadership concentrations might be completed anywhere, but this depends on elective offerings and faculty approval.
|Time Limit||7 years from the start of your first course at DTS|
|Satisfactory Progress||10 hours per calendar year|
|International Students||F-1 and J-1 Visa students are required to study in Dallas.|
3. What are the pre-requisties for the Internship (INT165) or Ministry Residency (EML801 & 802)?
|Options||Declare Concentration||When to start?||Course Pre-Requisites||Number of Semesters|
|Ministry Formation INT165 Internship||Declare a concentration before taking electives||After completion of 30 hours||SF100-1 or SF110-1, EML101, EML103/104 or 105||2|
|EML801/EML802 Ministry in Residency |
(Apply in January)
|Declare Educational Leadership Concentration||After completion of 30 hours||SF100-1 or SF110-1, EML101, EML103/104 or 105||2 (fall>spring)|
4. How do I meet my 22-hour face to face requirement?
Students should be aware that most elective EML courses are available on the Dallas, DC, or Houston campuses during fall and spring semesters. Some electives are offered at other locations and during summer and winter sessions. Students in the MACE program should contact the Educational Ministries and Leadership department for more information regarding planned elective offerings.
Distance and online students should check the course schedule for EML elective courses needed for their concentration each registration period (October for winter and spring; March for summer and fall). Prioritize these and then look for required BE and ST courses that you can take in person. Do not rush through the BE and ST courses online. Instead, start taking these face to face your first year.
