Internship Process
The Ministry Formation Department exists to help you make informed decisions as you progress through your degree program. Depending on your degree program, you will complete 2 or 3 semesters of internship work. The semester prior to the start of your Internship, you must complete the application to be eligible for registration.
- Complete at least half of your degree hours
- Declare track and/or ministry emphasis
- Complete Spiritual Formation. MA students must complete the first module of SF-100, “Identity.” ThM students should complete all four modules of SF. For more information about the Spiritual Formation program at DTS, please contact the Spiritual Formation Department, (214)887-5260 or sf@dts.edu.
- ThM, MACL, MACE, MACM, MACP, MAAE, MAMW must complete degree specific course pre-requisites. For more information, please contact the Advising Department, 214-887-5080 or advising@dts.edu.
Select an internship site and qualified mentor based on your vocational interest(s), degree, and/or ministry emphasis requirements. Due to legal limitations and educational objectives, DTS does not place students at their Internship sites. Consider internship opportunities at your church, or refer to the Job Board early in your education to garner ideas.
Make sure your selected Internship meets the following requirements:
- Student is involved in a minimum of 7-10 hours of ministry experience per week.
- Student serves under the guidance of a qualified mentor.
- Internship site and mentor hold to the Essential Doctrinal Commitments of DTS. If the site is a non-religious organization, contact the Ministry Formation Department for additional information.
- Internship position lasts 2 or 3 consecutive semesters based on the student’s degree program.
- Internship position is not secretarial or office administrative in function. It should not be used to provide labor or as a replacement for a permanent employee.
If you have questions before you are ready to complete the application, you are welcome to speak to a Ministry Formation Staff Member at any time. The semester prior to the start of your Internship, you must complete the application to be eligible for registration. You can save the application at any point and return to it.
After submitting your application, you must schedule a registration interview with a Ministry Formation Internship Coordinator to enroll in the internship course. Your internship site will be approved during this meeting, and you will be added to the internship course in Canvas. After you accept the Canvas invitation, you will have access to all of the internship course files.
Note: This registration interview must occur before the payment deadline. If you schedule the interview after the payment deadline, you will be responsible to pay all late registration fees.
