The purpose of the Ministry Formation department is to create and foster contextualized learning experiences that enable students to integrate courses and practice by partnering with the Holy Spirit, students, internship sites, and coursework. An internship for academic credit is required for the ThM, MACL, MACE, MACO, MACP, MAAE, MAIS, MAJS, and MAMW programs. Spiritual Formation and the completion of half of a student’s required DTS coursework are the primary prerequisites for Internship course eligibility. Additional degree-specific prerequisites are outlined below.

INT5110 Ministry Formation Internship (2 credit hours)
- Enrollment limited to: MA students (except MAC and MACP)
- Duration of this course: 2 semesters
- Credit hours: 2
- Course description: A supervised field-based education in the student’s intended vocational ministry context under the supervision and encouragement of an experienced ministry mentor.
- Prerequisite:
- Satisfactory completion of half of their DTS coursework and progress toward completion of SF5100/5110
- Completion of the prerequisite courses. See the table below for each degree’s prerequisites.
INT5120 Ministry Formation Internship (3 credit hours)
- Enrollment limited to: ThM and MACP students
- Duration of this course: 3 semesters
- Credit hours: 3
- Course description: A supervised field-based education in the student’s intended vocational ministry context under the supervision and encouragement of an experienced ministry mentor.
- Prerequisite:
- Satisfactory completion of half of their ThM or MACP requirements
- Completion or progress toward completion of SF5100
- Completion of the prerequisite courses. See the table below for each degree’s prerequisites.
INT5152 Internship for DTS Partner Church-Based Residency
- Enrollment limited to: Students who have been accepted into a DTS partner church-based residency program
- Duration of this course: 2-3 semesters
- Credit hours: 2-3
- Course description: A supervised field-based education in the student’s intended vocational ministry context under the supervision and encouragement of an experienced ministry mentor.
- Prerequisite:
- Satisfactory progress in DTS coursework
- Completion of the prerequisite courses required by each church-based residency program
INT5185 Clinical Pastoral Education
- Enrollment limited to: MACP students
- Duration of this course: Up to 3 consecutive semesters, depending on the duration of the ACPE program.
- Credit hours: 3-6
- Course description: A clinical pastoral education under the supervision of a certified Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) supervisor.
- Prerequisite if used as an elective:
- Satisfactory completion of the required internship for the student’s degree
- An acceptance letter for a certified Association of Clinical Pastoral Education program.
- Prerequisite if used to replace the MACP Internship:
- Satisfactory completion of half of their DTS coursework
- Completion of CM5701 and CM5101
- Progress toward completion of SF5100/5110
- An acceptance letter for a certified ACPE program
INT5210 Specialized Ministry Formation Internship (3 credit hours)
- Enrollment limited to: Students in the CSNTM (Center for the Study of NT Manuscripts) program
- Credit hours: 1-4 hours
- Course description: This course is a supervised field-based education in the student’s intended vocational ministry context under the supervision and encouragement of an experienced ministry mentor.
- Prerequisite: Degree-specific Ministry Formation Internship
